A deputy sheriff stopped by my place and told me they had multiple reports of a black bear sighting in my area, 35 miles SW of San Antonio. So yes we have bear also.
I knew there were some bear down there, we have quite a few also, but they are real shy so you don't see them often. Once in a while one will wonder into CALPOLY and scare the crapola outta some college kids, but they don't do any real damage.
We have so many cats, and so many people that it is a real concern around here. The cats don't really fear people, we just are not a preferred meal for them. The sick or hungry ones chew on a tree hugger or three a year, no loss there, but the attacks are happening more and more frequently. I don't worry about a dirtbag trying to rob me, I do worry about a rabbid cat trying to eat me. A few times a year Ill find a fresh kill or see a lion. We are getting them on our game camaras quite often now, where as 5-8 years ago we might get one picture a year, if that many.

I actually had to trap one out of Starr County last year that was big into dumpster diving and we transported it to West Texas for release. My Avatar is a picture I took of another male around 40lbs that was also in Starr County near Falcon Dam. I'm glad I didn't have to trap him out of there. So far as I know he is still out there somewhere. Crazy thing here is our winters are so mild they don't hibernate the way they do up north.

The closer to large cities that a sighting comes from the more skeptical I usually am about it. There are lots of people in Texas that don't actually know what a bear looks like and will confuse anything black with a bear. You really would be surprised how many counties in Texas actually have documented sighting with at least a clear track to verify it is a bear though.

We are thick with them and they are protected by the State, soon there will have to be a season on them.

We keep getting stories of bears coming into town and scaring people. It's going to end up over populated like gators

We have a growing population of lion, especially after the tree huggers got the ban on hunting with dogs. We get reports now and then of lions in the 'burbs. Black bears have been seen within the city limits here in Seattle. I've seen red foxes more than once in the city's limits. Some 'yotes in the burbs, not quite into town yet... that I know of.

However... I had a VERY odd thing happen right outside my window on the side of my house. I was sitting on the couch and caught a flash of fur (BIG) go past. Got up and went to the front window, then out onto my porch. I'd swear it was a wolf loping down the sidewalk. That mottled gray/brown ruffed coat, LONG legs, BIG paws. About 3 hours later, saw it again... going back from whence it came... using the path between my neighbor's house and mine. Never seen it again. Probably a year or two ago. Didn't bother with reporting it... figured I'd garner that kook status if I did.

this guy was starving and we could figure out why. When I finally decided we better take him{really wanted him to reach 4-5 years}. I found out he had tusks making it difficult for him to eat.

Tusks? as in canines... similar to ivories in elk? I've seen that before, but from what I understand it is only common in some areas of the state. It's supposed to be a recessive trait left over through the evolution of the species. Iv'e heard them commonly called vampire deer but Iv'e never seen them so developed that they impaired feeding habits. That is very interesting.

most of what you are talking about are on the top. These were on the bottom beside his second molar from the front. stuck way out to the side. If I can find it I will post up pics of it.
