PVS-14 Dying: Video of a dying tube

The tube is old. I have had it for well over 8 years.

It is an unknown pedigree tube and I have no idea how it was used before it came into my possession.

It was a damn fine tube.

I know it has lots of hours.

The shading is also referred to as "going to air". Supposedly it happens when the ceramic body of the tube develops micro cracks. I'll hopefully have more information after shot show

It was a dead tube. Replaced it with an l3 filmless and upgraded the battery compartment to a single AA

I sent my unit back to ITT on March 27, 2014. About a month ago the head of warranty department contacted me and stated his tech could not duplicate the problem since they have no way to weapon mount the unit. They told me the will continue to try and figure it out. I hope they get it sorted our soon. A friend has been kind enough to loan me his Litton unit until mine comes back.

So maybe it was not a dying tube but just a loose connection? Why would they need to weapon mount?

Frank, my tube is not dying. I've sent it back once before for loose connections. They told me they have no way to mount it on a weapon or a helmet for testing. They are still trying to find the problem. Mine was still under factory warranty. If they cannot fix it they need to send me a new one. IMO

Ahhh, so the recoil is causing the glitch?

Mostly. It got so bad that it would turn off by itself when helmet mounted. I've only put it on a 5.56 and have never dropped the unit.

I know there are some bad power supply's out there. I bought my tube from Ident just before Christmas. It was doing the same thing. Jason had me bring it in took one look at it said the power supply was defective and put a different brand supply on it no questions asked. No issues since then. They are great to deal with.

I'm thinking I should have got mine from Ident, but I didn't know about them at the time. If ITT can't get it right I may have to suck it up and pay someone else to fix it. BTW ITT has been good to me so far, and I'm not bashing them.
