Well, I went with an Apex XQ38, and love it. Except the mount... it seemed nice and solid at first, and it does seem to be built well, but it shook loose twice on me during my trip to Texas. Originally I was going to leave the thermal permanently installed on one rifle, (.277 Wolverine build)...

I hear ya about things happening 10 years later in Louisiana... it seems like a whole different world down there. Some great people though, it was a good experience but I'm glad to be home.

To clarify, I want the scope before I go to Texas in December, but will use it a lot more than for one hunt. There are lots of coyotes up here... I'm not against the idea of buying used, though, which I hadn't really considered up until you mentioned it.

Unfortunately that's not gonna happen... gotta stay within the budget. Now I do have a question for the Pulsar experts... How do the model numbers work? I get the lens size, and the difference between Apex and Trail models, but XD, XP, XQ etc... what does it all mean???

Thanks for the replies. So it looks like ATN is still not a good option. I do like my X Sight, but like I said before, I don't really feel confident in their thermal HD stuff. Pricing aside, the others just seem more solid. That and I really don't need all of the extra bells and whistles that...

I'm in Woodland Park, up in the mountains west of Colorado Springs. Beautiful country up here, lots of mule deer and elk, lots of fishing, no snakes or gators and not very many bugs. In fact, I think I've seen one mosquito since we moved here last January.
