Thermal is OK for daytime. NV is not. The good thing about a clip on is all of your day scopes can be set to shoot during the day and at night put it in front of the scope and leave it there.
Clip-ons are great because of what Gilbert stated. Any gun with a day scope and a rail in front of it can be turned into a NV optic. The disadvantage is cost.
