So far the hogs do not like the barrels even the ones I put on very active trails have hog tracks going arround them but have not been moved. The pig pipes are empty. I wonder if the grape smell is keeping them away.

It is not Grape or Citrus or any other 'cover scent' it is the soap and detergent. Car washes use strong stuff to clean the car ASAP. More soaking and rinsing for those barrels.
Can you throw them in a pond or sink them in a 55 gallon barrel for a few days?

Otherwise out a bunch of soured something (corn, rice, whatever) in them to counteract the detergent.

They should be a perfect size to use, just needs a bell.

I just wash the barrels out, they come clean easily, high powered hose and upside down. There is a corn and apple scent I found and use on the bait sometimes as well as mixing dry dog food or koolaid powder in the corn at times.
