no, double bagger isn’t referring to scrambler’s saturday night special, it just means i bagged two hogs. they were feeding in wheat corners between two corn circles, but there was no way to approach on the turnrow. the only way to get in range was through the corn. i got close enough that i was afraid my rustling noise would spook them, so i waited patiently for the pivot to swing around. i got soaking wet, but the water hitting the leaves masked my final approach. i couldn’t see their exact location from inside the 7 foot corn, but i was able to use my sense of smell to cut a path pretty close.
other hogs were travelling to and from the corn steadily. as luck would have it, some popped out onto the turnrow the same time i did… right next to me! they were too close to pick up in the scope, which limited my options to one.. SHOOT. perhaps i rushed it, but i was confident enough in the shot that i hurriedly swept the others, cleaning out what i could.
i knew where he was but couldn't see anything. the cover was too tall for thermal spotting, so i would have to go in with a flashlight and pistol. inching forward, i heard his growl of disapproval. i knew he wouldn’t be visible until i was within striking distance. he might have got me too if he had just waited, but i was more patient than he. eventually he raised his giant head up above the grass for a look. i've seen that enough times to know what was about to happen. just as he lunged i emptied the 45 into his head and then his neck as i dove out of his path. fortunately he kept going and ran into the corn, so i’m only counting this as a double.
