no, double bagger isn’t referring to scrambler’s saturday night special, it just means i bagged two hogs. they were feeding in wheat corners between two corn circles, but there was no way to approach on the turnrow. the only way to get in range was through the corn. i got close enough that i was afraid my rustling noise would spook them, so i waited patiently for the pivot to swing around. i got soaking wet, but the water hitting the leaves masked my final approach. i couldn’t see their exact location from inside the 7 foot corn, but i was able to use my sense of smell to cut a path pretty close.

other hogs were travelling to and from the corn steadily. as luck would have it, some popped out onto the turnrow the same time i did… right next to me! they were too close to pick up in the scope, which limited my options to one.. SHOOT. perhaps i rushed it, but i was confident enough in the shot that i hurriedly swept the others, cleaning out what i could.

i knew where he was but couldn't see anything. the cover was too tall for thermal spotting, so i would have to go in with a flashlight and pistol. inching forward, i heard his growl of disapproval. i knew he wouldn’t be visible until i was within striking distance. he might have got me too if he had just waited, but i was more patient than he. eventually he raised his giant head up above the grass for a look. i've seen that enough times to know what was about to happen. just as he lunged i emptied the 45 into his head and then his neck as i dove out of his path. fortunately he kept going and ran into the corn, so i’m only counting this as a double.

Good kills there, congrats.

Glad to see your loving that 6.8. Mine will be assembled shortly. Good video, better story. Glad you survived yet another brush with honed ivory death.

Very nice! I'm personally ready for our corn to be harvested, get em back out in the open.

Must be nice having so many hogs to kill. I spent 14 hours in the stand this past week and saw two raccoons.

you've got the patience of an oyster

This time of year, it's pretty much my only choice. Any land that doesn't have timber has crops. Corn is the crop of choice this year, and since it's already 5+ feet tall, so but 4 of my spots are basically useless. The road to one of the 4 spots will need to be disked before it is passable, so I'm down to 3 spots. The guy that let's hunt his property doesn't want any bait out at 2 spots, so I'm down to 1 spot. But at least I've got trail cam pics of big hogs at the 1 spot!

I've thought about purchasing a small tract of swampland/low land but either I can't find any or they want a bloody fortune for the land.

are you kidding? if i had your money id burn mine!

aren't there any day leases within your chauffeur's driving distance?

SC is kind of funny on a few things.

Right now, I can legally hunt hogs at night. I had to go on the DNR website and register each parcel. Since I'm using a center fire rifle, I'm supposed to be 10' off the ground. Riiiiight.... That ends 7/1. After 7/1, I can only hunt hogs from one hour before legal sunrise to one hour after legal sunset until 2/1/2017, and that's if they renew the program. DNR is afraid that hog hunters are going to poach deer, so they don't allow night time hunting close to deer season.

My friend has been able to get me depradation permits for hogs after the night hunting ends, but the game wardens are not always willing to give out the permits.

Leases will start up in August around here. I'll still only be able to hunt between one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunrise. Hunt clubs are not eligible for the depradation permits since hunt clubs are not engage in any agricultural business, so joining a club won't do me much good.

If I could find a cheap 10 or so acre tract, I'd take a serious look at it. I've not been able to find the right size tract for the right price. I appreciate the opportunity to hunt on "free" land, so I'll only put out corn where my friend wants it, which really limits my ability to attract hogs. If I owned my own hog hunting land, I'd put out an arseload of bait for the hogs.

Dj that's a heck of a story and good video. You got get you a dubbs we send him in on the big hogs so our track dog "gus" the jack russel don't get skunt up!!! Actually we will let you borrow him and try him out before you go out get one. lol

quick background check on dubbs turns up he has a fetish where he likes to wear a horse head mask and spank the hogs on the rear after tying them up. thanks... but i think i'll pass.

You guys really shouldn't be airing my dirty laundry out to the public... It's going to ruin my good name
