Vortex Viper PST Gen II 3-15x44 FFP (MOA) ordered up this morning. This is an MSRP $1300 scope which I've been watching at $999. At $879.99 (Free Shipping), I couldn't pass it up. This'll be residing on my Rem 700 .30-06 which will be headed with me to SE Montana in October. Will bring along the 6.8 as well. Hopin' to fill some tags, and m'be kill me a 'yote as well.

Got the additional 10% off (July 4th Special) as well as the free shipping. My scope just arrived, a couple of bits/bobbles for it should arrive later this afternoon. I have my EGW pic-rail to go onto my Rem 700, need to take it with me to Cabela's to pick out the rings I want.

I've already done the Kwik Klip conversion for my ADL to become a removable mag fed, and have it all mounted up in a BDL stock. Kwik Klip has FINALLY released a conversion for the short action as well. I have one to mount up for my Rem 700 in .22-250 now as well.

Also got a nice deal on a PRIMOS Jim Shockey Gen III Trigger Stick tripod, for $119 (from Cabela's).

For this hunt, I'm thinkin' some Nosler BT 125 gr. for a fairly flat shooting .30-06 with 3100fps muzzle velocity and less than 20" of drop at 400 with a 200 yd. zero. We'll see how they shoot from this gun. I have a sister to this gun done up the same, but, with a synthetic stock (a gun I'd bought for my late father).

Binos for the trip are some Vortex Viper HD 10x50, and added a Vortex 1300 Range Finder. Found great deals for those two as well from Optics Planet.

The scope's mounted, bore sighted, and on paper. Now, I need a range which goes further than 100 yds. to dial it in for a 200 yds. zero. I was pleased to learn that this Rem 700 LIKES the Nosler 125 gr. BT ammo which I was planning to use for this hunt. This gun just might shoot as well as my AR now. And, I'm not dialed in yet (not enough trigger time). All in all, I'm likin' how the gun works with this new scope. Glad I snagged the scope level and the Vortex Defender scope caps too. Good stuff goin' on to date.

And, the news only gets better today. Met my cousin at his place, and we had to go nearly 100 miles (from my house) to get to a range which (is open) goes to 200 yds. I got the hits walked into place, then set my rifle aside for about half an hour, or more to let it cool well. Shooting from sandbags on a wooden bench, the next four shots clustered at about 1" (two touching) at 200 yds. in the bullseye.

If I were better tuned (trigger time), it might've done even better. At 15x, I was having to manage my trigger pulls between heartbeats, and tried to keep my thumbs off the stock (imparted more heartbeat movement). This barrel loves the Nosler 125 gr. BT ammo, and this scope is working flawlessly. Now that I'm dialed in, I need to do the turret adjustments to set the settings as "0". The rifle is ready for Montana.

Side note, my 6.8 has the Vortex Viper 2-7x32 scope on it. It's been dead nuts ON at 100yds. with SSA 110 ammo. Today, sampled some 90GD in it, not sure if the barrel just needs cleaning for dissimilar copper jacket alloy... but, the groupings were not as good as this gun shoots, and these light pills were printing above the bullseye at 200yds. Should be good enough for minute of 'yote, but you have to work a little to group with 7x magnification at 200yds.

Where did you end up shooting? Either the Tacoma Sportsman Club or the range in Eatonville should be open if they are still there. 18 yrs since I moved from the area. We used to be able to shoot 600 yds in Eatonville.

Plantation Range in Bellingham. Great folks, down to earth in behavior (None of which applies to Kenmore Rifle Range). Nice, basic facility which goes out to 300 yds. Since I'm in north Seattle, I try to avoid going south (through downtown) unless I have no choice.

I'm hearing tale of a range (m'be in the Enumclaw area), which stretches out to 1,000 yds. and they were negotiating with the Weyerhaeuser folks to gain access to expand it to 1,500 yds.
