Today, I go to the grocery store to buy some things. When I get to the check-out, the clerk advises me that since I'm not wearing a mask, he is not allowed to accept my transaction, and that they will have to do my shopping for me through another means.
Politely, I advised him that: if a person has a medical condition which precludes them from wearing a mask, they are exempt.
He gives me an odd look and picks up his phone, and says: "I have a guy here who says he has a medical condition which precludes him from wearing a mask. Can I complete the transaction with him?" "Ok, thank you." And, after hanging up, advises me we can complete the transaction.
H.I.P.A.A. protects a patient's privacy concerning health matters. An attempt to force that information is a violation of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution (illegal search). The person on the other end of the phone was made aware of this, and did not ask him to find out the details.
As a side note, the clerk bumped (and knocked to the floor) the bottle of hand sanitizer... so, I'm ok with helping the guy out, and picked it up for him, rather than making him walk all the way around his check stand. He learned something new, made a friend, and life proceeds... and, I left the store with my groceries in hand. There was no need for me to be a dick about it (so, I didn't), he didn't have to enforce an illegal policy, so he was relieved.
In the end... a conservative put into action the left's battle cry: "Resist". And, it worked.
