Since I built my long range bolt gun I have wanted a pig to come out in the daylight but have had no such luck. I woke up early this morning so decided to see if I couldn't change that. I got to the field about 45 mins before sunrise and spotted a small sounder at 800 yes with the W-1000 thermal. Had to make a hard decision, go get as many as I could with NV or wait a while and try to get one at range. I waited!! Using NODS I got to within what I though was about 400 yards and waited. I wanted to stay further away but from what I could tell the alpha sow was in the ballpark of 180 lbs and I didn't know how the Bergers bullet would do. The field has 4' square bales all in it so I used one and set up. When it was light enough to see them though my range finder I got 387 yards. I doped my Nightforce for 390 yards, took a deep breath and sent a 105gr Bergers VLD hunting round down range. It hit, she went down and then got up and stumbled about 15 yards where she folded up. It was great to finally get one at range and I was ok only getting one since she was the alpha sow.
