Dogs versus Hog in the Brush

Decided to deer hunt Tuesday evening after a few hours of cutting firewood. No deer show once again and I am about to leave to hunt for hogs in another place with night vision. A solitary hog approaches and stops 120 yds away 30 yds short of feeder. In the dim view of the scope I squeeze of a 120 gr sst. The hog moved at the same time and I knew I had not made a good shot. He ran about 40 yds into the thick brush. I knew I had hit him so I did look a little bit then texted a fellow hog hunter with dogs. He replied be there in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later we release the bay dogs. After a few minutes we hear a bark then they all converge on the same spot on the GPS 30 yds away! We release the 2 pit bulls and they go in. Hog and dogs are fighting and thrashing big time. We wade our way in and find the dogs and hog. They have a hold on a boar and Mike goes in to stab him while I am watching a few feet away. First time I have have seen this kind of action in person. It was intense!!! Mike stabs the hog a few times and it expires . 175 lbs estimate. The 2 pit bulls are excited and start to growl and snap at each other!!!. Mike is trying to seperate them and tells me to grab the collar of one.
Visions of bite marks on me dance through my mind. I grab the the darling with my left arm in case i need to access the Sig on my right if things don't work out. The dog accepts my friendship and we get the dogs back the to the Mule and everything is ok except one dog took a small wound from the fight.

Took a while for the adrenaline to go away.

A flurry of fangs, claws, hog tusks, sharp metal objects and soft human flesh.....hmmm.

Very cool! Did you see if you had shot the hog?

Lots of blood and gore but it looked like he was hit behind the lungs . I guess he chose to stay in the thick brush because he felt safe in there. I have been out with the dog hunters a couple times before but had no luck finding hogs. I knew pretty much how it would go down but when you see it that close, wow!

I've ridden dirt bikes, been scuba diving, rappelled off a 180 foot cliff, and driven almost 160 mps on the Nashville speedway, but the biggest rush I've every had is sticking a 350 lb + hog with a knife. If that doesn't get the blood pumping, I don't know what will.

It was a stripped down Corvette. My sister was in the Sports Car Club of America in the 90's. At one of the events at the Nashville Speedway, I got to take a Corvett our for a few laps. It was incredible!

Update....Found out one of the dogs had a couple of tears on its vest in addition to suffering a minor wound. We decide to go out Thursday to a brush creek bottom with hogs. There are 2 guys that hunt together named Mike. One has a couple of high school daughters and the other has a college age daughter and hunt with their dads. There were no girls like this when I went to school. So any time I've gone out with them at least on of the group looks way better than the others! The dogs bayed up on hogs so we got the pit bulls out and released them. Before they got to the other dogs the hogs apparently took off! The dogs split up after hogs but the all got away. We spent a while recovering dogs and will try the area again after deer season
