Decided to deer hunt Tuesday evening after a few hours of cutting firewood. No deer show once again and I am about to leave to hunt for hogs in another place with night vision. A solitary hog approaches and stops 120 yds away 30 yds short of feeder. In the dim view of the scope I squeeze of a 120 gr sst. The hog moved at the same time and I knew I had not made a good shot. He ran about 40 yds into the thick brush. I knew I had hit him so I did look a little bit then texted a fellow hog hunter with dogs. He replied be there in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later we release the bay dogs. After a few minutes we hear a bark then they all converge on the same spot on the GPS 30 yds away! We release the 2 pit bulls and they go in. Hog and dogs are fighting and thrashing big time. We wade our way in and find the dogs and hog. They have a hold on a boar and Mike goes in to stab him while I am watching a few feet away. First time I have have seen this kind of action in person. It was intense!!! Mike stabs the hog a few times and it expires . 175 lbs estimate. The 2 pit bulls are excited and start to growl and snap at each other!!!. Mike is trying to seperate them and tells me to grab the collar of one.
Visions of bite marks on me dance through my mind. I grab the the darling with my left arm in case i need to access the Sig on my right if things don't work out. The dog accepts my friendship and we get the dogs back the to the Mule and everything is ok except one dog took a small wound from the fight.
Took a while for the adrenaline to go away.
