I got out with some friends last night for some hog hunting. It was hot and slow! My good friend HL has wanted to hunt with me for years we just never seem to have a chance. For an old man he stays way too busy! We hunted a little during the day time and saw one big boar. He was working along the creek in thick brush. He never presented HL with a good shot. I tried calling him to us, but he could clearly see us and wasn’t giving it up. We stopped to eat and meet up with Doc Tibbels and Charlie for some night hunting. We saw lots of deer and in this country that usually means we are not going to see many hogs. Why? I don’t know, just one of the mysteries I guess. Anyway we finally found a lone boar. Tibbels snuck up close enough to get a shot at him with his 300 black out. He ran about 80 yards and dropped. Later on in the night we spotted a small group of hogs, maybe four. HL got a long shot at one of them and made a hit. We trailed that hog half mile before losing the trail. We moved on. About a half mile over we spotted another lone boar. Charlie made about a 100 yard shot on it and dropped it right there with a 6.8. We never did see another hog, but I was able to lipsqueak a coyote into HL’s sights and he got’em. We’ll have to try again another day for a hog HL.
