So I just got my Zeus 336 42 last week and am wondering about the focus ring. I'm used to camera lenses and a smooth consistent focus ring. My Zeus turns very stiff for a 1/4 turn or so and then very easy and back to stiff for the final 1/2. Is that kinda normal? Does it loosen up eventually? Thanks in advance.

my sus 3-24 75mm focus ring is just like that. VERY tight turned to the left and waaaay to loose turned to the right. it's so loose in the range that actually is focused that sometimes it jumps out of focus after i shoot. i notice it more when zoomed. been thinking about putting some innertube on it leaving half of the knob exposed so i can still turn it.
when i sent it in for firmware upgrade i mentioned the problem and asked them to check it. also asked them to clean the lenses. wasn't expecting something for nothing. thought they'd contact me for payment info but never heard back. scope came back with new firmware and dirty lenses and loose ring. they probably only take paypal anyway

Ok, thanks for the feedback.
After heading over to the range yesterday, I think I might have the same issue as DJ (scope issue). If I attempt focus and go slightly too far, when I rotate the opposite direction, it is very loose and takes almost a full rotation before it even starts to focus again. Makes precise focusing a PITA but maybe it's sposed to be like that? Emailed Armasight and will see what they say.
Besides that, Does POI change when you change recticle's? Kinda seemed liked it moved.

Is the focus ring supposed to have stops or does it spin forever?
On my 336 42, its 2 1/4 full turns from infinity to max close. Seems like it goes forever.

My first Prometheus was like that. Like the focus ring wasn't engaging. Armasight didn't make a big deal about it though. Call them up and they'll get it taken care of it. Some play in it is normal but not like you describe.
Darn I just ordered the armasight 3x24x75 zeus yesterday I hope I do not get it in with problems. If I do I think I will send it right back to optics planet and buy the IR MK2 HUNTER.
I think it's not right to spend that kind of money on something like that and lacking in quality control. I bought sn Armasight because I read their cust svc was great. Am I wrong

There is a new owner now things are in flux. You went from Individual ownership where the owner was the President and very concerned about customers, to a big public owned corporation. Time will only tell.

I just purchased an opmod zeus 640x42 from optics planet, I emailed armasight upon receiving the unit with the serial# and they told me it was built in the factory 30 days ago. The focus ring is hard to turn at the very end, but I can live with it. I went with this scope because there seems to be more people out there running with the Zeus than the IRD stuff, and seems to have a track record of reliability (which is worth a considerable amount of money to me). That being said, next year I might spring for a REAP-IR

I had the Zeus 640 x 42 and it was a good scope. However, the clarity difference between the REAP-IR that I have now and the Zeus 42 is night and day difference in my opinion. To me it was worth the extra money. That being said, I had no complaints about the Zeus, just clarity of the REAP-IR was too good.

Very true, but how good does the video look that the REAP-IR produces? For people like me who do more filming, tracking, than hunting, the Zeus seems to be a better option (especially considering convenience of the auto NUC). Even still, I want a REAP-IR so bad. I think I'm officially turning into a thermal junky, lord have mercy on my bank account!
