Help- thermal monocular

Landowner called me asking about the Leopold tracker thermal monocular. He is looking for somethting to scan behind his house/barn when he lets the dogs out. Something hat can distinguish a coyote from a raccoon at 100 yds.something basic. He will buy something more expensive later this summer.
I don't know if that would work well enough or or would he need to spend a little more and get a pulsar quantum hd19?? If so, or not which specific model do y'all suggest for budget minded, short-ish range use?

Pulsar LD19a can be had cheap right now. 9hz but good picture. That leupold looks like it'll throw tons of light back on you and plus it's real low resolution.

Just buy a Bushnell Equinox for $200. They have 3x. 4x and 6x. I would stick to 3x. I use mine and can see hogs at 400 yds plus or at 10 yds. They have multiple settings and ir light power adjustments.
Cheap and work great.

Leupold won't be able to distinguish between a coyote and raccoon at 100 yards.

The Bushnell will tell you what animal down the the genus, family and species and how much it weighs as well as yardage and hold over for whatever rifle it senses that you are carrying. After the shot it will go retrieve the animal and gut it out.

I have a Leopold tracker. Id say no, there is no way to identify anything at 100 yards. You can see something is out there moving at 100 but no way to tell what it is.

I have a Flir Scout TK for sale for $500. Basically brand new and used very little. It's a pretty good scanner out to 100 yards for the money.

Yep it's a pretty good value considering the 384 sensor vs what the sub-$1000 ones have.

No but I can try and take it out with me next time and try to get some.

Flir scout III or armasight Prometheus C would be something to look at too. Price would be a little higher. But I doubt you'd be able to distinguish between a coyote and raccoon at 100 yards with a 120 core in the scout TK.

Yeah I'm not positive if you could or not either and not claiming you can, just saying for $500 its a pretty decent picture. However, if there is one thing I have learned it is that you definitely get what you pay for with thermal. Spend as much money as you can afford to get the best unit you can and it is definitely worth waiting to save up if that is the plan to upgrade soon anyways.

I can tell you though the TK at $570-599 retail is better than the Leupold @ 700 that is for sure!

a lot of optics can do that, but how are they on dirt clods?

I do have an ATN DNVM-2 for $120 they have the 4 and 6 too but are narrow FOV than the 2, it works very well with a new $15 940 IR light for over 100 and maybe 200 yds. That is what I use for spotting with my ATN X-sight...JUST an FYI
