Ya 30-30 on deer works great, but how deadly is it on a hog? I understand shot placement is everything but say I miss the neck and hit the body, will a 30-30 drop him or will he scatter?
I wouldn't worry about a specific caliber on hogs. Many calibers will kill hogs with correct shot placement. Many calibers won't kill a hog if you hit him in the wrong place. I shot a hog center mass a several years ago with a .338LM and did not recover him. I've dropped 250 lb hogs with a .223. IMO, get a gun you are comfortable with and that you can hit your target with all the time. I like .30 cals but that is just my preference. I'm waiting for things to slow down on the home front so I can try my new 6.5 and 6.8 guns. I'm sure your .30-30 will do just fine if you are proficient with it.
