Got Pulled Over Last Night

In texas, long guns can be loaded and in plain view. Pistols must be concealed in a vehicle. You can conceal a pistols in your vehicle with or without a concealed license.

While hunting I typically have several loaded long guns wedged between seats and a pistol in my chest rig. I've been stopped twice. I keep my hands on the wheel and inform the LEO of the weapons without reaching. No issues yet.

Last time I was pulled over I was on my Harley. Cop have me a ticket for excessive noise. My bike was loud but nothing abnormal than what is on the road today. It was middle of the day on a state highway.

I did notify the cop I was CCW and where it was. No issues there, but still got a ticket. Eventually I fought it and won, judge didn't even bother to hear my case. Showed up and called a bunch of people to the stand and we where all there for the same reason he threw it out right there.

This was quite a few years ago, cannot remember when but it had to be more than 3 years.

We can open carry both rifles and pistols. I am sure if I was walking around in city with rifle out a LEO might just ask what I am up to.

Is the pistol in your chest rig concealed? I am putting together a tactical vest to wear when night hunting as I want my pistol to be more readily available than under my jacket in a belt holster. My concern is traveling between hunting locations, I think technically I should remove it from the vest holster and conceal it. But, I also thought I read somewhere that there are exemptions if you are going directly to and from hunting.

It is not concealed, but it is kind of hard to easily pick it out in the dark. Call your local LEO and ask about exceptions

A CHL holder is required to have his license with him whenever carrying.

I have found this to be a challenge; the license is in my wallet but I have left that in another location while carrying.

A solution arose when I was unable to locate my license; I paid a small fee for a replacement license. I was fortunate enough to locate my original license the next day, so now I have two.

One stays in my wallet; the other travels with me when I carry.

I took a pic of all my ID cards and have them on my phone, I thought at least that would give me time to make an excuse

You should consider taking photos of your guns as well.

If someone steals your phone, they'll see them and be encouraged to return it to its rightful owner.

That's exactly why I carry a drivers license from all 57 states! 1 more to go.

You tube has some "advice" from lawyers about the best ways to handle a traffic stop. I learned something from watching. Besides guns when hunting, I frequently taxi around teenage girls in the back of my truck-one of them could drop a baggy of something I did not know was there- or even worse drop her phone and that phone could have pictures of her she is sending to her boy friend. If I got caught with that my life would be just about over. I urge you guys to look on you tube.
