Congrats. Has he had something to overcome to achieve it? And? Who got to eat the rabbit? LOL

Being he was/is a wild animal that was trapped from the wild, every day we fly and he comes home with me is something to over come.
Any day now he could flip me the bird (pun) and take off. Wouldn't be the first time it happened to me and it probably won't be the last.
But he chooses to stick around, so it really is a privilege that he chooses to continue to be with me.

Yea, I hear rabbit is really tough to cook, so he eats rabbit tartar.

Ok, I'm with you now. I didn't realize this was a bird you'd recently caught and are striving to build mutual trust with. Tough to cook? Really? And, I was just checking on whether he was sharing too. Fine lookin' little guy.

Believe it or not,
This is a second year bird, I had him last year.
But time don't matter.
My sponsor purchased a captive bred peregrine, a bird that has never been wild in its life.
He had the bird for 5 years and one day.....
SHE GONE!!
Just took off never to be seen.
So when ever I release the bird to hunt, there is always a possibility it decides to leave me.
So I don't take for granted that he comes to the fist when I call him.
Cause one day I could raise my fist and call him and he won't be there.

Falconry has changed my life.
I look at life a little different.
I thanked the rabbit for giving its life for my bird to eat.

I think he has a little schmutz on his beak. ;)

Seriously, nice job and very freaking cool! It would be neat to see you guys work, live.

So if cottontails are possible, how about piglets?

I have seen pics of piglets that were taken by hawks.
So absolutely it can be done.
I mean these guys kill jack rabbits, so a piglet is nothing.
But I think momma pig might have something to say about that.
That's the caveats.

We need the pix here FIRST when you reach that landmark with him.

Great job! That rabbit looks like a huge load for the hawk to carry back to you. And great story!

That must be an awesome experience having the respect of a wild animal. I have several redtail hawks that hang out on my lease. They always look so majestic and I enjoy watching them.

TLM, I don't think this bird fetches them back to you...At least on the video the handlers met the birds at the kill.
