I was introduced to a couple a month or so back by Brian Shaffer, they had never killed hogs. Seems that Mike proposed to Hannah, but the terms of their marriage being finalized were that she had to kill a hog first. Well despite our efforts she didn’t make contact on the first trip. I told them we would try again. So they came back for another round. On the first day out Mike saw two hogs and got both of them, one nice boar and a little one. We then night hunted and saw a few but no shot opportunities. They were the only hogs we saw all night. Day two we saw a few hogs during the day, but Hannah just couldn’t get on them. I was able to keep them coming to us in the dense brush by calling, but they just wouldn’t break cover long enough for her to make a shot. We then headed out for some night hunting. We hunted all night and finally spotted a bedded hog in a dense thicket about 5am. Before we could get set up, it got up and moved on. We headed for the field it headed to and there was one lone hog in the middle of the field and several others on the edge. Hannah and I snuck up on it and she shot it with my .223, Long story as to why she was using the .223. Anyway she made a solid hit and it ran behind a tree. I told her if it offered another shot take it! It did and she did! The hog squealed its butt of and took off! We found it standing in another field and she shot again and missed. It headed for cover and she fired a few more rounds. It stopped again in thick cover and she shot it in the face. Again it took off! This time it bedded in thick cover, we could only see its butt. I told her that was as good as it was going to get, take the shot! The HOG ZOMBIE took off again! We backed out and waited an hour before going back. It was near day light by now and we found her hog! Woohooo she could get married now! We hunted again later that evening and Mike found 2 hogs and killed one. We then headed to Oklahoma where I’ve been seeing a lot of hogs like clockwork. They were a no show for the regular time and we had about given up. Just at dusk we saw about 10 hogs crossing a field Hannah tried a shot with her new black powder rifle, but missed. We headed back to Texas to hunt the night and never saw another hog.
