I was on my last leg of my foot patrol around our ranch when I spotted a small sounder in the Northwest corner of our Northwest pasture. The rain made it impossible for a direct stalk, so I had to walk an additional 300 yards or so around some of the new swamps.
There was absolutely zero illumination. Since I do not have nightvision, I managed to walk into a small locust bush along the way (such fun), but eventually made my way close enough to get steady.
I honestly thought I was 75 yards or so from some decent-sized hogs. Turns out I was all of about 30 yards from some smaller ones. With a 50 yard zero I thought that the strike would be a bit above my POA, but it was actually about an inch and a half below it...
...So, I managed to break a leg, and then put five more low shots into the small sow as she tried to run away. This caused me to miss all opportunity at picking up any other hogs. Thankfully, the largest pig of the group got confused in all the shooting and actually came almost right at me. I gave her a quick one - two at about 15 yards. She was down with the first shot, but as Brian says: "Quality assurance", and I didn't want to risk it with her being so close to me.
The video sucks, as do all the ones I make. But maybe one or two of you might enjoy it.
I'll do better next time with the shooting. I'm better than this.
