Three to Four weeks ago I spotted a lone boar on the easement road on the way to work in the morning. A few days later I moved a corn feeder into position, and setup a Covert game camera. It didn't take long for the deer and coons who also frequent the path in the same spot coming in and out of the brush to locate the corn on the ground.
Then all of a sudden last week out of the blue while I was sitting on the sofa watching TV at around 8 pm a lone boar triggered the Covert camera. I was out the door and in the truck with riffle in hand within in a couple of minutes.
In order to get setup in a safe shooting direction I needed to drive right past the feeder and hope that he would come back once things settled down. After a few min he did, but stood just on the edge of the brush on high alert, and just behind a small scrub tree that I could still see him through. I elected to take a shot rather than wait to see if he would pop out into the open. Bang, he turned and bolted.
Upon inspection, I didn't see any blood, nor any hot spots with the new thermal 1x mono in the brush. Sigh not sure why the miss, but hoped secretly I had hit a twig or simply jerked the trigger and he would come back.
Then two nights later, He was back after 2 am, for a whole hour. Yay!
I hit the test button on the feeder the next morning 2x and once on the way home from work, with hopes of getting this big guy hooked on a free big easy meal, I woke to expect a bunch of pics on my cell in the morning. Nothing! not a deer, coon and no lone boar, but not much corn on the the ground. Sigh. Ok reset the game cam and format the memory card.
I was able to get off work a bit early today, and was able to rescue my other Covert camera to find the battery was dead. I hit the range and checked the zero on my 6.8 to find it was close enough, and setup in the bottom to see if the Yote would come back out tonight to play. After sitting for 45 min or so watching nothing I packed it up and headed off to the house.
Once again I'm on the sofa. I just finished dinner and the phone dinged. After looking at 4 or 5 pictures of a young buck I figured he was still lingering around, but decided to take a quick peak at the photo. Gasp, the boar is back.
Ok Ok, gota make a run for him once again. But this time I'm going to wait. Again Im out the door in 2, and down the road and need to do a drive by to get into position. This time ear plugs in, both back doors open and once into the back of the Suburban I turn on the scope and once on the table I see he's back. Not only is he back he's right under the feeder in the wide open. Safety off. Bang, and he's down.
I cant say enough good things about the Covert Code black. It sure has helped add to my numbers on the board.
