Took off this morning at 4 am to check horse ranch for hogs. Have a Bushnell N.V. to see through, then just use a green light on gun. So pulling in I scope 2 hogs in field, have to drive past then walk back towards them because of the wind. They were gone by the time I got there but a coyote runs into the brush, I can see his eyes in the light so let one rip with the 556 right at his head. Lets out a scream but never found him. It's still dark so head to cattle ranch and walk into pasture and scan. 2 hogs under oak tree scarfing down acorns, get to w/in 60 yds and turn on the green light and drop it down, hogs keep moving around and blend in so much hard to see head/tail. Look for eyes and shoot. They split and run, disappeared into brush. Still running the 556 because it was closest to my hand, 6.8 is in back seat, maybe should have used it. So after that shot, 2 coyotes come closer towards me and start howling at me, about 80 yds, hit the green light and yote takes off to my right, hit him trotting off and he goes down. Flopping on ground. Put gun on shoulder and walk over with flashlight, he scrambles up and falls a few times and also disappeared, never found a dead critter. Maybe buzzards tomorrow. Going to set a couple traps today.
