New guy from Burleson

image.jpg Hello all, been reading on this site after my night vision research lately and have seen many of the videos and links to topics created here. I'm from Burleson Tx, and work for Ingersoll Rand as a rotary compressor field service tech. Currently running my Rock River upper 6.8 rig for now, but finally got a barrel from *** for build #2. Been deer hunting for a few years, and the only thing I got this season was my first hog back in November. Totally hooked, and trying to budget to get my first can and some night vision real soon!

Anyhow, glad to be part of the community here.

Here's my first hog. Didn't have scales when I shot her, but guessing around 225 maybe. For reference that's about a 8' swing set we use to hook the gambrel and hoist to.

I originally wanted one when I got my Rock River upper, but never could get lucky enough to find them in stock. I got the 16" scout barrel, can't wait to thread a can on it.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I really wanted to get some antlers on the wall from this season, but no such luck. I sure got plenty of sausage though. It's the last weekend of doe/spike season in Eastland, hopefully more success with my 6.8 to come.

Haha, that's my uncles jeep. He used to drive it around the property, it's not running right now, I've been meaning to take my service truck down there and tinker on her, but what fun is that when you can be hunting instead?

Holy hog man!! That is a heck of a hog for #1. I would bet she went more than 225. That one would do it fo sure about being hooked. Way to go. BANG BANG!!

Yeah, I only regret not having a scale. I'm hooked for sure, while nother animal apart from hunting deer. She was good size, my uncle and myself could barely get her in the truck.

Quick reference estimate of a hog's weight.

Formula used to estimate:

Heart girth is measured in inches using a cloth measuring tape. The tape is placed directly behind the front legs,
wrapped snugly around the heart girth, and read directly behind the shoulders.

pig weight = 10.1709 x Heart girth (inches) minus 205.7492.

Found to be 95% accurate to within 10 lbs

Using the above formula, we get the following:

40 inch = 200 pounds
42 inch = 220 pounds
43 inch = 230 pounds
44 inch = 240 pounds
45 inch = 250 pounds
-------------------------------
46 inch = 260 pounds
47 inch = 270 pounds
48 inch = 280 pounds
49 inch = 290 pounds
-----------------------------
50 inch = 300 pounds
51 inch = 310 pounds

55 inch needed to get around 350 pounds
