200 lb boar down! 40" on then tape.
August and September were amazing, The October floods put a damper on my hunting not to mention having to move my hog feeders off from a leased property due to Deer season. The land owner thought I had 3 feeders set up to draw in deer on the fence line.
Needless to say its been very dry in the hay fields since the last 4 boars I got in December. No movement on my nights out & no signs of activity. Then 2 weeks ago I get a report from the bosses son there is a sighting on our easement road to one of our fields. Now with permission to set up feeders on the 60 foot by a mile long road easement, I've focused my time here for the last two weeks.
Last sunday I got a small 80ish lb sow at 3:30 in the afternoon, and last night had a great positive sighting however it spooked as I attempted a 200 plus yard stalk. I was done with work today at 5 pm and had planned to setup on the side of the road with in shooting distance of the Friday night sighting.
I stopped just as soon as I pulled off the Farm to Market Hwy, and sure enough there was a hog not far from the feeder I have set up. After stalking 15o or so yards he just kept moving away, then someone who lives down by the hay field decided to head for town and it was all over with.
After walking back to the truck I moved down to the set spot for the night. I have a old kitchen table I cut off the legs 2" lower the the bed of my truck and use a bipod for a very stable shot. After sitting for 40 give or take min in the back of the truck, watching the feeder I decided to take a peak in the other direction and see if there was any movement down the road.
Sure enough there he was, 100 yards give or take in front of the truck. I setup with the bipod on the roof of the truck and ping! He drops instantly. Then his rear end gets up and back legs get moving and he scoots himself across the road 90 mph with his nose and front legs still on the ground. At this point Im wishing I had video. I take two more core shots and he's down for good.
After cutting off the head for a friend, and a 2 gal freezer bag of meat Im still home by 9:15. All in all a very good night.

It was a sight. Upon inspection I noticed one of the shots broke his front right leg. I was guessing it was the first shot, and the reason why he didn't get his front legs up.

A young couple in their early 20's that we know has been wanting to go hunting with NV and thermal so the wife and i took them out Saturday night. I put the young lady on the first group that we found and she connected with a large boar using my 6.8 and the Pulsar XD38A from *******************
but he ran off into the woods. Then we saw a cat and i stalked up on it, unfortunately it wasn't the cat I'm after but it was a nice bobcat so i took him out. At another place i put the young man on a group of hogs that was just coming over a tank dam. While we were stalking up 2 single and separate hogs came running by us within 10 yards heading to join up with the sounder.; the first one never saw us and the the second did but simply ran back over the dam instead of alerting the others. I was setting up my rifle for him during this so neither were viable targets. I put him on the sounder and he unfortunately missed his shots. The next group we found were in a wheat field and moving away from us towards a county road. The young lady was up again so we stalked in as close as we could before they got to cover. Bad news ; they were getting close to cover/ county road so i had her take a pretty long shot and she missed. Good news; the whole sounder came back into the field towards us and ran perpendicular to us but at a more reasonable distance. She was able to hit several but only dropped one, her first hog. We all had a great time and they are already wanting to go again.

Damn phone! Neighbor started planting corn so it's that time to keep em off the crops. All we saw were lone boars and was able to get these two down clean. Couple of others we got got shots on but ran into the brush.DuffWasn't31 said:
