After a couple of nights of full moon and no clouds, we had a cloudy and very misty night last night. Spotted a group of about 20 smaller adults and footballs on the adjacent property. Wind was at 15 knots from the SE so my normal stalking route may have got me winded. Hopped in the truck and drove around to the north of the sounder, hopped out and stalked to within 50 yards. They all looked pretty small, but I DRT'd a 120# boar. The group took off, but came between me and our house so I had to wait a few seconds for follow on shots. By the time they cleared, they were about 150 yards away but not moving too fast. Took a couple of more shots and dropped an 80 pounder. Shot was a little further back than I wanted but the SST did its job.
The scope performed well given the pervasive mist. Could make out targets over 800 yards away, the mist just took away most of the surrounding detail. One thing I did notice is that on the initial stalk, I am probably getting too close. I would have guessed my first shot was at 75 or 80 yards but was probably closer to 50. Worked for me last night but I might spook them next time.

This one I found using the cow heard as cover. He stood so tall that I had first mistaken him as a calf....until I saw the long snout.

This one came out of a tree line right at about sundown.

Now this one I found out in the pasture by himself. Hit him on the run from about 80yds away.
All were taken with 178gn Hornady A-Max reloads. 308 Ruger Scout Rifle

Yea it had a hell of a grunt before I shot him. I gave him the name Scuzzlebutt before getting him. I was playing cat & mouse with him for a while. Very elusive & smart boar.

More Carnage! Nice!
First kill using a Photon XT. Had problems with the DVR and so no video. Hog came in, sensed something wasn't right after sniffing in 4 directions (security check), and then headed back out in a different direction. I was trying to get the DVR running when he took off. He's trotting and explicatives were flowing from my mouth as I had to change windows, open the new window, and get the rifle up. I shot the hog after he stopped to do another security check...about 50 yards from where he checked 4 directions.
I had two options for disposal. First was to walk back and get the cart or just drag the beast to the bone yard that I could see (tree line behind me in the picture). Dragging seemed reasonable. What a stupid notion. Dragging a hog that big over 120 yards was not a good idea, LOL.
