Deer season is finally over, and I can get back into areas I've left alone for the last couple months. One spot has been hunted by an old employee of the company for years. He retired a few years back, but still has permission to hunt one spot outside the hog panel fence line of they hay field. Its still on property owned by my boss, but is a small 5 or so acre spot in the middle of a dry creek, and running creak that surrounds the high spot.
It needs to be dry for a bit just to cross the dry creek, and for the first time yesterday I ventured to take a peak. I couldn't say the feeder was still throwing corn, however it still had corn in the drum. I decided to plant one of my covert cams and see if anything would show up.
Sure enough at 9:30 last night the phone went ding. Only one in the photo, but good enough for me. Then more shots in the morning. None under the feeder but action just the same.
It was very slow at work today so I asked the boss if I could take off early. With lots of extra time I stopped at my big box hunting store and picked up a few supplies including corn. I moved one feeder from one spot to another on the easement road, picked up the 15 gallon roll barrel, and headed to the back. With a simple bait sight setup, I headed home for a quick bite to eat, and had plenty of time to pack up the truck with the gear.
I was back on the spot and setup on the truck by 6:30. I walked close to the feeder to drop off the fox pro, and figured If I didn't see anything by 9 pm I would turn on the freshly down loaded hog sounds.
Once back in the truck I did a quick scan with the thermal, then double checked my phone to see what time the hog showed up last night. I then decided to take another quick peak before i got settled in, and poof a hog... and a bunch of shotes. Its thick brush behind the feeder, and on both sides of the path of the dirt road leading up to the feeder only about 65 yards away. It was hard to tell how far behind they were walking, but it was. clear they didn't pick up on the corn and hog wild I dumped on the ground.
After 8 or so shotes passed by another larger hog came into view, I took aim on the neck and pulled the trigger.
I was able to get a shot off on another who passed by the now down hog, but with the thick brush I was never able to recover. The mobile truck blind once again leads me to one more! I'm on the board for 2017!
