Friday night Kevin and I hunt a field north of May. Its 160 acres planted in coastal on one side and wheat and turnips other. South wind so we set our chairs out and wait. From our location we can scan entire field.
After a while we have a solarity deer about 500 yds southeast of us and 3 deer about 400 yds to our southwest. To the east about 700 yds I make out something in the field. It is moving towards the 3 deer. There are no cows in this field. The bogey is now about 100 yds from deer and I look at the deer to see their reaction. They are 3 abreast and are staring at what is approaching. Its looks like an old west showdown. Its a big hog and its crosses a bit north of the deer. I say lets go and we head to intercept. Its dark with wind in our face so I am wanting to get close. The hog disappears into some very tall plants and bit of brush along the fence line. Its a small area so I figure he will be out of it in a few seconds. I swing the monocular to the left and I see a deer maybe 40 to 50 yds from me!!! I think how could I mistake a deer for a hog !!!.
I took a few steps to the left and now i see the hog about 75 yds away. Its at 11 o'clock but for some unknown brain malfunctioning I say its at 1 o'clock. So Kevin is now looking in the wrong area for the hog! He is now about 100 yds away and looks about the size of a D6 Cat.
I squeeze of a quick shot as he is quartering away now and aim for the top shoulder around the spine. He drops like a rock. We measure him and his chest is 46 inches . 57 inches long and 47 from base of ear to tail. We have now decided on single hogs we will now take turns shooting to simplify things
