hunted with a buddy and his new ir hunter mark 3. it’s mounted on a pof 6.5 creedmoor. if there’s anything not to like about the rig, I don’t know what it is. I’d prefer a 16-18 inch barrel on an AR I have to lug around, but I’m not sure it would really be a creedmoor without some barrel to it. the mark3 does need to be nuked, but I don’t think that would stop me from taking a rushed shot if I didn’t have time for calibration.

I had half a dozen places baited in hopes of getting to test the scope. we were either too early or too late at all of them. started heading in around 2:30 and an entire herd ran across the road right in front of us. normally this would be a pistol whipping offense, but my buddy dug his feet up under the glove box and leaned out the window with the gun pointed straight ahead. the hogs were running with the rows, so I floored it and caught them instantly. the pof sounded like it went full automatikka as the can glowed orange. pig parts flew everywhere, and I had to turn on the windshield wipers to fling off hoofs and snouts. alas the blood smear was too much, and I couldn’t see anymore.

I’m getting old enough that sometimes I’m not sure if what actually happened is what I was expecting or an actual memory. since I can’t really tell for sure, it’s possible there was only one old hog, and when we turned into the field he just stood there unable to run. he may have even glanced our direction and gave us the nod, indicating he was done and offered his consent to stick one in his ear.

Is that the elusive 36" barrel? You could pole vault with that thing.....

Love the stories keep at it!! My rifles are light and short, not sure the point of a rifle that need more than a 16" barrel like the 6.8 or 308, I am never shooting over 300 yds anyway.

Either story ends with a dead hog and that is a "good thing". Great stories.
