Focal planes when used with clip on thermal

Which focal planes work best when sitting behind a clip on thermal first focal plane or second FP? I'm running an Armasight apollo currently as a stand alone scope but am considering adding a 1x4 or 1x6 scope to my setup. Any suggestions? Please elaborate on your experiences. Thanks

I would say second so that the reticle stays the same size. On the first ones (first focal) during magnification the reticle gets bigger as you power up. BANG BANG!!

Agree with TLM. Putting the thermal in front of your day scope doesn't not change the way your reticle looks or functions. If you like FFP use it, it you're a fan of SFP then use it. I used a clip-on for about 3 years and found that i ran it 99% of the time on 3x.

I wasn't sure if the reticles reacted differently focusing on the back of the screen verses actually looking at your target. Thanks for the input.
