Corrupt UNV DVR Video Files That Won't Play - FIX

For those of you running a UNV type mini DVR (sold by some other companies under another name) who have experienced recording a file that would not play, due to a problem such a not switching off properly or some other disruption, I have found a solution that will work at least some of the time.

The DVR creates an AVI format file. If the file is there but will not play, what I have found is that using a file converter such as Official | WonderFox DVD Ripper, HD Video Converter , DVD Converter Software - Simplify Your Life and converting to an MP4 file will result in a viewable file that can be edited and shared just like the original should have been.

I have had problems twice since adopting this file converter to use with some video files and both times when I have tried to covert the errant AVI hunting video file, it has converted successfully.

Official | WonderFox DVD Ripper, HD Video Converter , DVD Converter Software - Simplify Your Life is a free program and in the free format (haven't tried the purchased version, yet), it is a bit slow, but works very nicely. The free version will handle 720 resolution, which is greater than the DVR's 640 resolution, so nothing will be lost in terms of resolution.

Other converters may work. I don't know. What I do know is that this works, at least some of the time, and is free. If you have files that won't play or edit from your hunts, you might give this program a try.

I’m going to have to go work on my computer to see if I have the very first video ever attempted to capture footage of me shooting a hog with my IR Defense scope.

It was one of those corrupted videos and it’s too bad because the hog was close and massive amounts of blood came pumping out and I was totally deviated when I saw the footage was corrupted on my first video.

I actually think that video was still on my laptop. Thanks for the heads up on how to possibly rectify the situation.

Have you tried using the same app on the pulsar corrupted videos?

Sorry, but I have not.

Give it a shot and see if it works. You won't be out anything other than a little time.

I did purchase ($25) the PRO version. I figured since I am using the shareware version and it works for my needs and and saved me a couple of times, it was the least I could do for the company. It does convert files faster and allows for HD video conversion, not that it will matter for DVR files, just an FYI.
