Took my friend Dan out for a hog hunt this morning. I'd say it was a great day. Even though he is from Seattle and usually hunts bear, I think he was excited to get his first Texas boar.Dan0803.jpg

This was a lone boar out for a stroll. We were very lucky to spot him walking down a steep bluff covered with brush. When he spotted us he turned around and went back over the top but Dan was fast enough to get up to the top too and shoot him while he was still out in the open prairie. The boar had to stoop and crawl under a barb wire fence and that gave Dan just enough time to get a shot lined up from about 75 yards away. Yes, luck had plenty to do with it. We had been out there before sun up and had seen absolutely nothing. In fact we were making our way back to the truck when we spotted him. You just have to be ready for anything to happen when you're hunting these critters.

Zestay !!! I'll take that as a good omen. This Seattle boy needs to bag his first boar one of these days.
