I have been hunting with a clip-on thermal for a little over a year now. It seems to be some
difference in opinion of how close or far away to place the clip-on in front of the day scope.
I was curious as to what some of you thought about this. I try to put mine as close as possible
to the objective of the day scope without the two touching. This seems to give the clearest view
of the screen. I have no idea what effects this has on accuracy. I have learned that if you
have a gas block rail it is best to stay away from mounting the clip-on there. I had better results
after installing a free-float forearm with a rail for mounting. ( the gas block rail mount seems to
make the scope loose after a few rounds fired) Anything I'm missing here?

You are doing it correctly. Get it as close as possible with out touching and as BRD said you can wrap it with something if needed. Keep it on the free float hand guard and you shouldn't have any issues.

Thanks for the info. I do use the big boot or cover that came with the scope.
