I got out to a property I had not visited in a while and set up on the west side a my usual spot was upwind to the field I wanted to hunt. My new spot gave me a decent view of the field and there was a gate nearby so that I could go after hogs that came in on the other side, which is what I expected to happen. It didn't.
It took a while, but a nice boar came lumbering along and I was able to drop him, no problem as he passed close in front of my position. Cool.
I scanned for a bit, saw no critters, and dropped a text to a couple of buddies to let them know of the first kill for the night. I was on the 2nd message when I heard growling off to my right. A sounder of hogs had come in from down wind and one had taken notice of me (smell? screen light?). I turned and scanned with my handheld and saw a bunch of hogs, nearly all seemed to be looked at me. At that point, it was a race to get turned with my rifle and sticks and get on target before they took off.
I selected as my first target the hog that was sounding the alarm and had its nose in the air...
