Went out to the Dickerson Farm last night. I was looking forward to this chance to try out my scope's video capabilities since I got it back from Trijicon EO. The video out wasn't working properly, but they handled it great. Anyway, I have been out a couple times without seeing anything and was hoping this would change. Around 11:00 pm a large single boar came into the baited area. I filmed him for a short while to get enough to make it interesting, then shot. The boar went down instantly and disappeared in the tall grass. I watched for a little while to make sure he didn't get back up. I set my rifle down and started to get out of the blind when I heard a loud bawling sound coming from the baited area. I hurried up and got my rifle back up to check out the boar and still didn't see anything. I resumed getting my things together and loading up the Ranger and drove down to where the boar went down. As I approached, I could see the boar laying with his back to me, but his ears were twitching and he was trying to lift his head. Without getting out of the Ranger, I put another shot into the back of his head. That just made him want to get up again. He even managed to turn 180 degrees to where he could see me better. All in all, I shot this boar 5 times with an 18" barreled 6.8 SPC with 120 gr SST. When I approached him, he still tried to lift his head up and I said "Oh, hell no!" Hit him once more with a 200 gr HP from a 10 mm. That finally stopped his efforts to get up, but he wasn't done yet. I gave up and left him for awhile so that I could check out the rest of the property. When I came back an hour later, he was finally dead. He taped out at 210 lbs, but looked a lot bigger. Especially when he wouldn't die.
During my rounds, I also smoked a corn thief that was climbing a feeder leg and spinning the spreader then climbing down to eat all the corn that he dropped. I even got an armadillo with my .22. When I got home and reviewed the footage, I was very disappointed to find out that my video problems still haven't been resolved and the videos were useless. I'm about ready to give up on trying to video my hunts.
