Congrats on getting 5 - enjoyed the write-up Eric. I've had same malfunction caused by the brass catcher as I usually keep it collapsed with bag rolled up between rifle and catcher frame when on a long stalk. Being lefty like you, this lets the rifle ride closer to the body when slung. But a couple times I have forgot to "deploy" the brass catcher once I'm ready to shoot, which resulted in the brass not clearing the ejection port and resulting jam.
I'm also with you on trying to video with everything else that is going on, as I have my meat hook hands full just trying to maximize kills. So hats off to those who are able to roll footy too. And yes the walk back to the truck is always longer.... but taking out 5 sure helps.
