IMG_1051.JPG Two years ago, I got this little fella. I was headed to my deer stand which is located within a small clearing of pine trees. The clearing is about the size of a basketball court.

I always take my thermal monocular with me, as I like to see what is out there. There are big black bears in the areas where I hunt, and I'd rather not run into one at 0 dark thirty. As I was approaching the stand, I pullout the thermal and scanned the area. I saw a big white blob in the clearing, about 20 yards from my stand.

Normally, I'm a bit clumsy, but on this morning, I used my ninja stealth to quietly sneak up to the edge of the clearing. The moon was out, but not bright enough that I could get away with not using a light. I keep a Streamlight on my .450 with a green cap for just such occasions.

I shot him in the shoulder with a single shot. He ran about 20 yards, and crashed into the base of a pine tree.

He weighed 226 lbs.
