Got a call that hogs were eating the Ranch Lady's lettuce and she was not too happy. Figured I'd take one for the team and go have a look....right after hunting the rest of her property first. lol Arrived about 5:30 a.m.--
360 acres with big pasture and heavy creek bottom produced nothing, very surprised but there were alot of cattle in there. So by 8 am I headed to the ranch house and checked the last 20 acres next to my truck.
I got into some pretty fresh rooting in the brush. I could smell hogs so I stopped and stood there for a few seconds to scan ahead of me. Well, they were bedded 10' away and to my left and rear....so they do the only sensible thing and exit through me instead of back behind me. I had to lift my left leg to keep from getting bowled down....son of a ?!..*....I got off 2 shots running away and hit 2 different hogs, 1 squealed like a banshee and the other spun around but they all got across the old dirt road into the neighbors before going down. I was only 10 yds from the old road and don't have permission to go over there so didn't go looking but they should die. One thing about hogs, if you want to still hunt they will sit tight and only flee if they are stepped on if you are quiet and the wind is right. Makes life interesting that is for sure.
