Long Stalk Coyote and Her "Pups"

I don't usually stalk coyotes. If they aren't mousing or bedded down, they generally just move too fast for me. Either they come when called or are already in range or I don't attempt to shoot them. This was a bit different as I spied a coyote hanging around with 2 little ones that I assumed were her pups. I watched for about 5 minutes before making a long stalk to get within shooting range. Most of that stalk was blind because of the landscape. I lost sight of the trio soon after leaving my ridgetop position and did not see them again until I was about 150 yards away...

It had to happen. The Federal Fusion wasn't always going to produce nice clean kills like on the last coyote and on the hogs I had shot, it obviously had not. The round may be mostly pelt friendly, but after two partial eviscerations on this large female, I didn't do any exploratory examination. The smell was quite unpleasant.

Whew! Lotsa damage to that coyote.
She obviously wasn't going anywhere after those shots!

Keep After 'Em!

Nice follow up shot. I hate coyotes but I want a clean quick kill. If they move after the first shot, they get another. It's only right.

Yeah, I want them dead (per landowner request, as with hogs, etc.). I don't want them to suffer. I am not there to punish them. That is why you will often see me picking up running wounded hogs, or downed hogs that are screaming or trying to get up. They don't need to suffer. They just need to be dead.

Same for me. I don't hang dead coyotes on the fence either. I do what I need to do to protect my livestock and I do it as efficiently and humanely as I can.
