Need hog bait advice

I'm making a trip to hunt hogs on my in-laws land (70 acres) in Texas.. they have some feeders, but don't fill them regularly so they are probably out. I'll be hunting 4 days of a 5-day license.. what should I do, if anything, for bait. Just throw out some corn, or try something smellier? Will that scare them if it's not 'natural' for that spot? Diesel? Kool-aid? marshmallows? pig porn?

The old school recipes still work, corn, water, yeast and strawberry kool-aid. Pour in some milk for faster action. I keep a batch cooking all the time. Dig a small hole and bury a cup of this concoction, Porky will root a 5 gallon hole chasing it. Drill dozens of small holes in a 5 gallon bucket, leaving about 5" on the bottom, fill till it leaks then set out in front of game camera and watch the fun. I know this is not an original or new innovation but I'm a simple man, go with whats proven to work. I was skeptical of a "roll barrel" until I tried it. Took a little while but the dog gone thing works! TGD

I trap a lot. I use steamed crimped corn, it's a buck a bag more but soaks up whatever you mix with it. Just add water and it smells sweet. I'm usually rushing around and will mix in a packet of cherry kool aid or vanilla pudding powder but my most successful brew is mixed with almond milk, they keep coming back for it and it doesn't stink up your clothes or truck etc...

Best bet would be corn that your in-laws put into a couple of feeders about two weeks before you get there!

Bought some cracked corn by mistake. Thought I was buying whole kernel corn. I put the cracked corn down as bait and the hogs seem to just love it. I think the cracked corn has more smell to it so the hogs are attracted to it. I put down some cracked corn and an old boar was into it in 45 minutes. Your result may vary.

I have also learned not to put to much bait down at a time, a 2 gallon bucket at a time. The bait should be gone in 12 to 16 hours, if it isn't don't put down more bait. Seems like the hogs know the bait won't be there all day so they better get into it before it is gone. To much bait and the hogs seem to go "ho hum, I'll get it some day".

I have tried brewing up some stink bait and it doesn't seem to work any better than corn out of the bag. Corn on the cobb seems to work well. Tractor supply has a wild hog attractant that smells like liquorish, I tried it. Not sure if it works or not but worth a try.

If you know hogs are around, (game camera) but seem to avoid your bait, bury it in shallow holes. With bait on the ground surface the hogs seem to think something is wrong about it. They only know to eat they must root for food. But, they can't resist the cracked corn.
My game camera showed the hog showed up at my bait pile but left after a few minutes so I change the presentation. But with the cracked corn, there are hogs on the bait all night long until it is gone. Hope this helps

I won't be hog hunting for the next 3 weeks. I'll be back at it after Xmas.

IMO you aint got time for them to find corn. You need to get down something stinky ASAP. Sardines are great for this. They carry easy and gently opened the juice can be dribbled up high. I also carry a small bottle of Minhaden Oil in my truck for emergencies. CAUTION: Don't spill this on you. Put it shoulder high to help transmit the smell.
I also use real vanilla extract.
After this use plain corn to keep them coming. When I initially put up a corn feeder,I set it to feed a small amount at least 4-6 times a day. After they start coming you can cut this back.
For us over here corn is fairly cheap this year. $5.25 for 56lbs. I use alot.
Good luck with your hunt. --- pruhdlr

Ya, I have some sow urine with me but have not used it yet. No need. I think I have a bunch of hogs in the area. Could be they eat the cracked corn because of competition for food. I have yet to see baby pigs, haven't figured that out yet

Sardines will get you a herd of raccoons
