Stalked a coyote

Went out two nights ago. We got set up, started calling, see two coyotes, get ready to shoot, and my thermal dies! FML. We go back to the truck, change batteries, and head back. We call, spot a coyote, but he's not interested and goes and beds down in some tall grass about 350 yards away. We figure since he's up wind, we might as well try to stalk him. We get within 60 yards and squeak, hoping he'll pop his head up. Nope, not interested, so I take a shot. It hits him low and breaks his front leg. He runs a few yards and I drill him in the chest.

Good hunt! I have yet to successfully stalk a coyote. I have almost stepped on a couple bedded down in high grass when stalking hogs. That is always exciting, LOL.

I would strongly suggest you buy a couple of these. I always have one in my pants pocket and one in my vest pocket. One way or the other, I have spare CR123s with me...for just such an emergency.

That is awesome! I once had a coyote come running at me from behind as I was calling, he barked at me as he ran by and disappeared into the tall weeds.

Those are pretty cool, thank you. After that happened, we established a new rule - each of us carries a full set.

Just in case anyone is wondering, it really sucks holding up a rifle for the 30 minutes it took to get within shooting range. My back and shoulders are still sore.

I got smart. I switched stocks on my rifle to a stock that has a spare battery compartment. Now, I have six spare batteries with the gun.
