1-4 AR scope suggestions

I want to put a low power setup on dad's AR15 he's going to be doing a lot more hog hunting with me this year. The stands I'm going to put him in are 40-100 yards so a 1-4 is more than enough and I'd like to give him a bit more FOV than mag. Doesn't have to be an exact 1-4, but on the low end I'd really like a 1 or 1.5 on the upper I think 6x is already overboard. I have not purchased any glass in this power so would appreciate any suggestions. I like Nikon a lot mine have served me well so if you have one of those to suggest I'd love to hear. Thanks in advance

I have a 1-4 Leopold "pig plex". It is in their VX1 series of scopes in quality. Meaning that it isn't a top of the line scope, but has very respectable glass for a reasonable price ($219) is the normal asking price. It has a German style reticle with the horizontal and the bottom vertical lines BOLD leaving the top vertical line off. It is very easy to acquire a target and is also easy to shoot at distances. I am 66 and can't see for squat and can easily shoot out to 300 yds with it. It is also made in the US and has Leupold's lifetime warranty.

I have a Leupold Hog on my 223 also. The letters inside are a bit large but it is great for getting on target fast and clear glass. It is a 20mm obj. but seems to let in a lot of light at dusk. I bought mine new from a guy off craigslist for 175.00.

Just went an purchased the Leupold VX 1X4 red dot Special Reticle. Did a print out for a ballistics chart for a 16 Grendel and 123 SSTs. Now off to the range and figure it out. Trijicon is out with a 1X8 and they also have the 1X4 but the prices are crazy high along with the Vortex 1X is also high. This Leupold 1X4 has tactical turrets plus the mildot marks on the scope plus zero stop and lit reticle. Now I have a 300 yard rifle for day use and it is very lite compared to the 4X16X44 scope I had on there. Once I figure out the true MOA/Mildot on the thing it should be a shooter. Bought at Primary Arms. BANG BANG!!

IMG_0035.JPG This is shooting with a new 1X Leupold. The scope is very clear and works like a champ. My first time shooting with a 1X and mind you it is not like shooting with a 5X20X50 Trijicon!! I could only hold at what I thought was close to center and my eyes are not that good on a 1X4 scope,, but I think it will work out fine. I can hit it if I can see it up to about 300 yrds!! Last three are in the center and that is at 100yrds with a 30 mile an hr wind!! BANG BANG!!

I have a Weaver Classic Extreme that I really like. Has the illuminated dot and German #4 reticle. $200 from Natchez. The Leupold VXII 2-7 and ultra light 3-9 are great scopes. Smaller scopes that keep the weight down and have been rock solid for me.

I've tried:

Vortex PST 1-4x ... small, light, but reticle too small for me.
Spitfire 3x ... reticle too small.
Elcan 1x/4x the best glass of the bunch good reticle ... but thought it cost too much ... no diopter but not fuzzy at 500yds for me.
ACOG 3.5x chevon 5.56 ... the reticle was good out to 400yds but for some reason not at 500yds. No diopter, fuzzy for me.
Burris AR 536 ... fixed power 5x ... like option for lower power 5x too much for low power setting.

Now on my day carbine I use holosun P515 dot site with an EOTECH 3x magnifier behind it. Great dot and great magnifier. And so this setup is a 1x/3x and that works for me out to 400yds. And I like the 1x for under 100yds let's me really see with peripheral vision, both eyes open. I returned the EOTECH dot for the factory refund as the dot was getting fuzzier and fuzzier. I did have it out in an ice storm once. But I kept the magnifier, nothing wrong with it. The holoson dot is good. Not as good as the Vortex 1-6x g2 or the ELCAN, but as good or better than anything else I've tried.

I really like the 1-6x Vortex Razor gen2, great glass, great dot, decent reticle, but that is too much scope for short distance and not quite enough for intermediate (out to 600-700yds) so I use the Burris xtr2 1.5-8x CB Mil for the intermediate space. The Vortex is a close second, with better glass. One interesting feature of the Burris is the reticle is FFP while the circle dot is SFP. So they call it DFP (Dual Focal Plane).

Geez guys sorry I neglected to see this updated. Tried a friend's Fire Dot wow that's what I want! I think it was 1.5-6? So nice in low light that is the ticket.
