So I went out last night about 8 pm. Walked a 1/4 mile down to a creek bottom glassing with NV. So some hogs by the fence line so I got about 100 yds away when I noticed a big sow headed out into the pasture at maybe 80 yds with my naked eyes in the moonlight and didn't need my fancy Chinese light. Took a head shot and the thing didn't go down but ran off farther and made a loop but now here comes a bunch of piglets, I let them rip and 4 or 5 more shots and nothing went down!. What the heck? So I went into the woods and looked and found no trace of pigs, crazy. After an hour or so with no hogs I headed back to the truck. Saw something in the field and a big boar was headed my way. Got down on one knee and at about 60-70 yds took a head shot in the moonlight. He takes off..heads to the woods. I run down and try to cut him off, see another hog on a trail in the trees about 50 yds away, again head shot...takes off. Now I am kind of irritated.
Went back this morning after my chores, jumped 2 hogs in the creek bottom and missed 2 shots running through the brush. Impossible. So I find a feed bag and check my gun, scope has slid forward on 1 piece mount and was 6" low at 50 yds. Not good.
So I zero quick and go stalk through the brush, jump a sow and piglets, drop her with one behind the ear, hit another big boar in the shoulder and another in the rear end as they smash through the brush. Thick stuff!
The piglets return and I shot one just because I wanted to. Then shoot another one across the creek in the thick stuff. So all that and only recovered 3 hogs!

OK Dan that is thick....maybe now you can show DJ how to tighten those scopes. maybe that is his problem too!

Way to recover and still get some dead porkers. It's frustrating to miss and never figure out why. Unless you are DJ then it's business as usual.

I bought one of those one piece scope mounts from Primary Arms, it is like the Burris PEPR but the quality is not the same. 2nd time it has given me trouble, time for loc-tite!

One can nearly go mad when a scope mount comes loose, and the shots are all over the place. I had a range session, where I was getting sub-1/2 MOA groupings, then, it suddenly opened up and went wild. I was out of ammo before it dawned on my to check the mount... LOOSE.

That's frustrating, but at least there was a valid reason and you figured it out and fixed it and still got 4 dead hogs! I've got a Bobro mount that I used #262 loctite on the screws to mount my scope a year ago. Went to the range a couple weeks back and scope was off about 2 inches and I noticed one of the screws is missing!? Bobro is sending a replacement and I will probably use some stronger loctite in the future...
