Its' been a great pleasure for me to take guys hog hunting for the first time and introducing them to thermal optics. Last night I got a long time friend initiated into the thermal club. It was extremely foggy and misty but I was able to get him to view several deer at a feeder. That impressed and motivated him to stay out later than planned. We ended up walking for miles in the slush and mud before spotting this young boar in the woods nowhere near any corn. It was just a gift that he hadn't noticed us even though we were less than 50 yards away. I spotted him first and notified my buddy. I was waiting for the hog to turn broadside but he fired first and sent the hog into a spin before I had a chance to start video recording. The hog took off to our right and I anchored him with my first shot. Several quality assurance shots followed from each of us. It was a great time in the outdoors in spite of the weather. It was all over by 9:15 pm so not too late of a night. Luckily we didn't get stuck in the mud either. Where I live we have had eleven straight days of rainfall. So with that and the Covid scare I have been cooped up inside the house for way way tooo long. Glad to be back on the board again.
