Wow Brian. I sure hope you are hunting from an elevated stand WITH an emergency escape provision. I have heard of wounded wood rats climbing the ladders and attacking unsuspecting hunters who thought they were safe. Nice shooting. No point giving him a chance to stalk you before he dies.

I see that you were poised and ready for a follow-up anchoring shot as well. One can never be too safe.

Do they tree-knock to warn you of their presence, and to give you notice to leave their area?

Don't forget to bring a field sharpener to touch up the edge on your knife as you work through that hide.

No, they do not! Good advice. I not only needed a sharpener, but a smaller knife.

I read once that wounded wood rats kill as many hunters in Texas as hippos. Large sack to hunt those killers. Kudos.

That isn't a myth! I wish I had remembered to put useful information like that in the video. Hunters need to understand the dangers...

A classic video! Your best one yet!

Your contributions to the study of wood rats is truly legendary. You will go down as one of the great pioneers in this field of study. I’m sure that someone will name a hall or a building after you at a university or college as a result of your work. You have earned your place along Jane Goodall and Jacques Cousteau for your contributions to science.

Well done sir, well done!

What criteria does B&C utilize to determine a true trophy? Tail length?

Brian, you do realize that this display of a real sense of humor may be noticed by the admissions team of the Engineers and Scientist Secret Society and my result in your membership being terminated. Just saying.

This was actually a cull. We expect our trophy bucks to be 300 class or better. Rumor from my mammalogist has it that we have some approaching 400, but I haven't seen them, yet.

Bra! I’m laughing my ass off right now. As I’m watching it I’m joking with myself saying I wonder if he is going to perform a Necropsy and you did!!! Hahahahaha. That was great
