Last night netted one boar, but I got some time to play with the Thermion XM50 (rifle scope) and Axion (handheld) XM38, both of which are 5.5x. The larger lens of the Thermion does seem to make a noticeable difference.
Checking one of my last places on the way home revealed a hog out in the field behind the landowner's barns. I made my approach out to him and was undoubtedly busted by being backlit by the security lights. However, the hog wasn't too pressured, but went on the move none the less. I am still getting used to working with 5.5x and failed to realize how far away the hog was and did not lead the hog far enough with my first shot. The delayed report of the impact alerted me to my error and subsequent shots were more properly led.
