First Snare: Small(ish) Boar

Checked my snares today. While I have several busy hog highways on the land, the presence of calves causes me to hang my snares on the outer fence line of the property. I'm just getting into snaring, and this is my second kill in about two weeks of putting a couple of these out (popped my cherry on a coyote).

This dude was still alive, so a single round from my M&P40 was necessary to make him a "good hog". I figure he was about 125lbs. He looks a bit small from the photo, but that is because he is on a pretty steep bank.

Took him about 40 yards out into one of the pastures to feed my eagles (several Bald and at least one Golden on this property almost daily).

I like snaring hogs, just be careful what you tie off to. They can tear up a fence line. Good Job!

Sorry for the late reply. I am using commercially made snares at the moment. I bought a dozen of them with the cam lock for about four dollars per snare shipped.

I am sure that I can make my own for less, but I just wanted to get my feet wet in snaring, and didn't want to invest a whole lot of time into something that I potentially suck at. In two weeks I've caught two pests (this hog and a coyote) with only four snares out along the property perimeter fence, so if I can keerp it up I'll probably invest a little more time and effort.

With calves on the ground I have to keep the snares within fence lines...which stinks because I've got about 60 acres of woodlands between pastures with a ton of hog highways in them. That's why I have more invested in shooting them.
