Unsuccessful Saturday morning hunt when I got busted stalking (walking)in the middle of a pasture at about 150 yds and had scope turned up to 9x trying to connect on running shots, no kill. Sad so sad.
Went back last night, ranch owner said hogs were showing up at the bull corral cleaning up feed. I show up and end up , up to my elbows in a cow trying to pull out a calf. Ended up killing the calf and removing it in parts...it was too big and died. Not much daylight left to hunt. Anyway, shortly afterwards there were hogs 20' away from me in the dark feeding next to the bulls that were laying down. Nothing I could do but watch until they ran off into the brush. Again this morning there were 3 large hogs in the pasture but right next to cattle, so no shots. Back again tonight....backed up my truck, threw up a lawn chair in the back and sat by the bull corral and waited. About 12 little guys came right at dark as well as a few mid grade size and then this boar...I wanted some eating size hogs but could not help myself when I saw him. I had my 223 for a fun change from the 6.8. 30 yd head shot and tough stinky boar. His hide was almost too tough to cut so I did not finish cutting him up to eat.
