SBR or pistol pro here?

Guys I'm hoping someone could help clear the air for me as the powers that be have evolved on the SBR/pistol brace conversation over the years. While on the one hand I like the quick efile times for an SBR I do not like that it's for 1 state only b/c I hunt in at least 2 and a 3rd occasionally. So that seems like a deal killer to get an SBR. Plus I'd like to keep this as a truck gun and I travel 3 states.

On the pistol side if I understand it correctly we can for now at least shoulder a pistol brace. That can/may change moving forward depending on the ruling body changing their mind. If it does then that's a bummer pill to swallow, but as of now I'm G2G. Correct?

The tax stamp/wait/process isn't a big deal to me I can do that, but when I put my decision tree on paper it just screams to me a pistol is the way to go. And especially since I don't use the full length of a rifle buffer/stock length with thermal I run it on 2 clicks from shortest which means a pistol brace would work just fine LOP wise.

Anything else I should consider? Thanks for any input

Seems like everyone is going with the pistol nowadays. The conventional thinking is the cats out of the bag now on the shouldering and it wont be reversed. Anything can be reversed.

I have my 6.8 pistol set up with a red dot sight, which is not LOP sensitive. Therefore, if questioned, it is set-up and designed for use AS a pistol.

I'm still holding out for the HPA to pass. I just refuse to play that Stamp game.

I'm just going to throw my $.02 in for what its worth. First, the above statement is true, kind of. If I understand the latest ruling which can change with the wind, is "shouldering a pistol with a brace on it DOES NOT turn it into an SBR however, building a pistol with the intent of using it as an SBR is still illegal. The operative word is INTENT. Furthermore, stating your intent on an open forum is just asking for trouble that you really don't want to tangle with. Believe it or not, some law enforcement read these forums and I wouldn't put it past ATF to take a peek every now and then just to see what people are talking about. So, bottom line as I see it, if you want to build a pistol and then sometimes put the brace to your shoulder, great. That in itself doesn't turn your pistol into an SBR, but if you plan to build a pistol to intentionally circumvent the rules on SBR's, and you telegraph that INTENT on an open forum.......not a good idea.

One other consideration if you want to hunt in up to three states with your pistol, read carefully each state's definition of "pistol". Some have barrel length restrictions and others have total length restrictions, etc. What might be legal in FL may be illegal in GA

Thanks chopper that is good stuff. I think I'll pump the brakes and give this some more thought. Great points. Maybe I just need to have an SBR I use here in the swamp and keep using my 16" options on the road. Appreciate it.

better to look up the rules with a pistol than have to file paperwork just to travel with your SBR, no more getting a call from your friend and getting in the truck the next day to make the trip!
