Took some friends out for a bit of night hunting last night. My buddy’s wife had never killed a hog and wanted to bad. She was worried she’d miss! We were checking a spot as I made the comment I hadn’t seen a hog in this spot in months, when you guessed it there was a hog! It spooked and took off. I kept watching in the direction it ran in hopes it would settle down. Sure enough it did. As me and Trish were making the stalk it vanished and popped back up only a few feet away, It spooked again and took off! This time I had her set up in case it stopped, It did and died! She was so excited it was hilarious. We later found about twenty hogs on another place and Jeff dropped one. We hunted another place and spotted a big hog in the distance. We decided to drive a bit closer before getting out and going after him. On the way I saw what I thought was 2 more hogs laying dead. We got about 15 feet from them and turned on the lights. It was actually 4 hogs bedded out in the wide open! They slowly got up and eased off. We could have easily killed all 4, but the big hog was the target. Jeff and Trish are in a hog contest and they needed a big one. We went ahead and got out of the truck and headed to the big hog. Jeff made a 60 yard head shot on him and dropped him right there. He asked how big I thought he was and I told him right at 200 and Trish’s would go 110-120. We weighed them when we got back Jeff’s was 199 and Trish’s was 120 on the nose!
