Very nice blades, I have not seen any with a single fold line like that.

They call that San Mai steel. What it is, is a much harder steel wrapped on 3 sides of the knife by a softer metal. Instead of being folded into the mix like damascus, San Mai is basically a jacketed steel. It gives a nice hard sharp edge with a more flexible spine.

What you're seeing in the knives I posted, is 1095 carbon steel on the cutting edge and above that wavy line is the jacketing of 203E steel which won't take a hardening.

Can you get me some cheese curds. I love that stuff.
The #1 rule is they have to squeak when you bite them. Dang it , I wish you hadn't brought that up, now I want some!

A gunsmith friend of mine built a 1911 with a Damascus slide and mastodon ivory grips. We called it dragon slayer. One of the best looking 1911's I have ever seen.
That would be one fine lookin' pistola.

Mastadon or Walrus. I've used Mastadon and also used Oosik. For those that don't know, I won't tell....
Walrus. Kiss the Oosik for good luck ! LOL

Sorry, I'm just going to have to live with my bad luck....:) Still got some left if you need any, or want to change your luck;) BTW, I highly recommend the use of a respirator to help with the smell when grinding the stuff.

Yeah, when my dad would carve, it smelled like being at the dentist. Ack. Not gonna ask what Oosik smells like. LOL

Nice thing about having an oosik knife is you can have a Skinner, rub it a bit and it will turn into a Bowie.

Damascus is very addictive. Here are a couple samples.
